英文摘要
Wireless 5G technologies will drive innovation, efficiency and productivity to a wide range of business and industrial sectors of the Canadian economy and offer Canadians with a suite of new services while providing seamless connectivity to millions of devices. A key challenge in this endeavor is the reliable communication services at extremely high data rates (>100Mb/s) with ultra low latency (<1ms). Achieving these goals will rely on advanced network architectures and services development integrating efficient physical layer and medium access techniques. Ericsson Canada is among the biggest 5G equipment provider in Canada and is keenly interested to partner with Carleton, in order to augment the body of knowledge available for enhancing autonomy, energy conservation and safety features of emerging 5G wireless technologies both for the outdoor as well as the indoor environment. Such a collaboration will provide new insights into networking dynamics and system optimization under the unconventional constraints presented by the wireless medium. In March 2020 the Ericsson Carleton partnership became official (https://hubforgood.carleton.ca/story/ericsson-carleton-partnership-advances-5g-wireless-communications/). Part of this collaboration is the proposed research project which aims to bring together several academic researchers with technical personnel form Ericsson and study key challenges related to wave propagation and antennas (e.g millimeter wave propagation studies), design and deployment of 5G network architectures (e.g. agile network slicing) and associated services (e.g. user localization and drone control over 5G networks). Furthermore, this collaborative research aims at establishing a long-term activity focusing on the training and retention of talented personnel, some of which will get employment in the Canadian high-tech (including Ericsson) or become future leaders in industry or academia. We firmly believe that our proposed research project will be one of the pillars supporting and guiding Ericsson Carleton partnership in the future.
