A niche in designing and producing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for last-mile delivery services has beenidentified by Aurora Aerial Inc. By collaborating with faculty and technical experts in SAIT's Centre forInnovation and Research into Unmanned Systems (CIRUS), this project will modify the Thunderbird UAV tomeet a standard of safety and ease-of-use, and enhance the mechanisms to dispense specific food parcels whileretaining others for alternate location delivery, or dispense a full payload comprised of various item sizes. Thistechnology is contactless, (valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic) and can be applied to fulfill therequirements of last-mile delivery for other products. With the addition of fixed landing gear, safe take-off andlanding capabilities, and wireless charging, food delivery can become a reality in Canadian cities. This deliveryplatform can also benefit other industries attempting to resolve technical obstacles in the last-mile challenge.
