The Solarwind® Turbine System project between Alberta-based Crestview Electric and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Green Building Technologies Research Group seeks to optimize a new hybrid, compact wind and solar energy technology for the Canadian market. The solution provides Alberta and Canadian markets with an innovative renewable energy technology that combines solar and wind renewable energy generation for use in limited space areas and will provide new opportunities for Albertan and Canadian businesses to reduce their carbon footprint. Crestview would like to increase the electricity generation and performance of their solar wind turbine system and advance or at least maintain the energy efficiency within a variety of environmental conditions. The energy generation and structural integrity will be adapted after gathering data through the use of sensors that will be installed on-site inside and around the system. The outcomes from this project will support the implementation of this renewable energy technology across Canada and help meet the Pan Canadian Framework goals to reduce emissions by 2030 and 2050.
