Shimco's patented IntelliShim utilizes a self-powering nanomaterial to which sensors may be affixed for use in Diagnostic, Prognostic & Health Management Aerospace (DPHM) applications. This technology would allow sensors to be affixed to any mechanical structure locations on which a shim is currently used without the need for wiring or any external power sources. This project seeks to gather preliminary data to determine where the IntelliShim can be used for health monitoring applications on aircraft landing gears. This requiresidentification of the physical barriers the devices need to overcome to function in the aircraft landing gearoperating environment, assessment of the sources of harvested energy, and RF performance of the devices. The preliminary test data collected in this project will be used to decide whether to proceed with full testing on different mounting configurations through complete flight profiles using the test setup developed.
