Centennial will collaborate with Aeroflux, an aerospace start-up developing magnetic aircraft brakes that provide frictionless and virtually wear-free braking on business, commuter, and commercial aircraft. With this project, Centennial researchers will design a testing rig to simulate and measure the repulsive force experienced between a conductive surface and a magnetic array that constitutes an eddy current brake to be used to provide aircraft braking. The experiment results would provide a greater understanding of the magnitude of this repulsion force, which undoubtedly will enable Aeroflux to refine its technology to benefit further the entire aerospace sector. The sustainable nature of these brakes would show their worth compared to the rather wasteful conventional friction brakes widely in use today, bringing environmental and financial benefits to the industry.
