英文摘要
Waterloo's Dynamic VA Test assesses a number of different visual acuities using different optotype target motions, speeds, colours and contrasts, thereby addressing limitations of its competitors. Current competitive computerised dynamic VA charts only use optotypes that move in a predictable horizontal or rotational direction or only use high contrast targets on a white background. None of the commercially available dynamic VA tests are validated through comparison with gold-standard static VA tests or assessment of test-retest reliability, which limits their clinical utility. By measuring static, random motion, horizontal, vertical, and oblique motion as well as jitter, Waterloo's software overcomes the limitations of predictability. It also overcomes the issues with having optotypes that do not change because each presented optotype is randomly selected from 4 to 10 different letters. It has been validated and used in research comparing the dynamic VA of athletes to video gamers and non-athletes, in classification research for Paralympic athletes with vision impairment, and in research examining the impact of caffeine on visual function. Some advantages of this technology include: (1) Allows for the measurement of a number of different static and dynamic visual acuities (2) Visual acuities can be measured at high and low contrast, and with different target and background colours (3) Dynamic visual acuity is measured in a common clinical visual acuity unit, and (4) Has been validated with demonstrated test-retest reliability comparable to the test-retest reliability of the clinical gold standard static visual acuity tests. As part of this Market Assessment grant, the selected consultant (Adventus) will perform a thorough market analysis to identify the most suitable market opportunities along with technical, marketing and financial challenges associated with the application of the technology in a particular market segment. A favourable market assessment result will 1) formulate the commercialization strategy and help attract potential licensees 2) form the basis for submitting a follow-on NSERC I2I Phase 1 project proposal.
