Continuous health monitoring (CHM) can improve the reliability of health evaluations. However, it is only possible through devices that are small and unobtrusive that a person can comfortably wear them during daily routine. A proprietary CHM patch from XCO Tech Inc., which integrates photoplethysmography (PPG) and electromyography (ECG) sensors, is used for the measurement of key biometrics. This research aims to enable this patch for clinical-grade, ambulatory, and unobtrusive health monitoring by reducing signal noises and motion artifacts with an embedded artificial intelligence (AI) solution. The idea is to fuse the measurement from multiple sensors for improved accuracy and reliability while an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor is employed to report a body's specific force, angular rate, and orientation. The collaboration between XCO Tech Inc. and the University of British Columbia (Okanagan) is to develop AI algorithms to calculate actionable health information, such as heart rate and heart rate variability etc. The research outcomes will be transferred to XCO Tech Inc. to be incorporated into their product line to serve Canadian's urgent digital healthcare needs.
