Current navigation methods employ well-established solutions such as chart plotters, radar units,and depth sounders. Though these tools may sometimes be interconnected, they are usually usedto provide information for individual displays with numerical or 2D graphical representations.We employ a novel design for a marine navigation platform that supplies vital information to animmersive real-time augmented reality visualization platform.In addition to interfacing existing boat instruments, the system adds an array of sensingcapabilities including cameras, gyro, magnetometer and other sensors. The visualizationhardware is a system of two or more displays, which can be a dedicated screen, a tablet, a phoneor an AR headset which features an immersive interface that displays navigation-related content,correlating it with a live video feed from the cameras.
