项目摘要
Increased climate concerns due to the use of fossil-based energy carriers, and political commitment have shifted the focus towards improved utilization of renewable energy resources and increase the efficiency of petroleum processing. The research proposal focuses on (1) the novel bioenergy production technologies including (a) biodiesel production and (b) nanocatalysis for the conversion of glycerol to value-added bio-chemicals; (2) novel catalysis research for the hydroprocessing of gas-oils; and (3) development of sorbents for CO2 capture from flue gases. These projects focus on creating sustainable bioenergy and biochemicals and clean transportation fuels, and possibly patented technologies/processes and partly address climate change solutions. These are based on the research outcome performed as part of CRC application approved in 2009 for Dr. Dalai, and fall within strategic research themes such as 'Energy, Natural Resources, Env. Tech. and Adv. Materials' at the College level and 'Energy & Sustainability, and Biotechnology' at the level of University of Saskatchewan.
