There is a critical need to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to limit the impacts of global climate change. Moreover, carbon pricing systems are acting as financial incentives for industry to implement practical GHG-cutting approaches. This research will investigate geochemical and geobiological processes of carbon management and sequestration as strategies for reducing net GHG emissions. Field studies will provide insights into Earth¿s carbon cycle while laboratory experiments will elucidate the drivers and limitations of specific processes that lead to the storage of carbon dioxide (CO2). These processes can be manipulated in geoengineered systems designed to accelerate CO2 sequestration.
