This program is twofold. First, geographical and historical data from within watersheds will be compared with accurately dated sediments (varves) to look at the global dynamics and causes of hypoxia, eutrophication, soil erosion, carbon fluxes, or flood events during the Anthropocene and to reveal regional differences. Second, physical models of rivers, lakes and beaches will be analysed by setting an hydraulic flume within a CT-Scanner in order to characterize the bedload, a poorly understood but important component of the fundamental equations of sediment dynamics. Modeling the formation and preservation of varved sediments makes the link between these two parts.
