The development of clean and sustainable energy sources is one of humanity¿s most significant challenges. Moreover, improved water treatment technologies are critically needed, as the global population and demand for clean potable water continues to grow. Dr. Chen aims to create innovative green technologies based on nanoscale materials (~1 nm to 100 nm). His proposed research program will result in new technologies for wastewater treatment, energy conversion and storage, and the sustainable development of natural resources. His results will provide new insights into electrochemistry and nanoscience techniques, while enhancing the environmental compatibility of operations associated with Canadian chemical, pulp and paper, and mining industries.
