Injectable hydrogels have the potential to revolutionize both minimally invasive drug delivery, and 3D bioprinting, the automated production of tissues and organs. However, the effectiveness of conventional hydrogels is still limited by their suboptimal mechanical properties. Dr. Paul¿s research program will address these needs by developing a new class of nanocomposite hydrogels with high structural stability, printability, and ability to provide sustained delivery of therapeutics. This new material design will enable the engineering of living tissues whose shapes and biological activities can be patient-specific.
