I am the leader of an international collaboration of physicists (the TRIUMF Ultra-Cold Advanced Neutron, or TUCAN collaboration). We are designing a new experiment to measure a fundamental property of neutrons: the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM). The experiment will place tighter constraints on extensions to the standard model of particle physics, which could help to explain the predominance of matter over antimatter in the universe. A discovery of a non-zero nEDM would be a major discovery because it could impact a broad range of theories relating to particle physics and the early universe.
