High-impact weather events are often accompanied by temperatures near 0°C and precipitation in the form of freezing rain and wet snow. These can lead to catastrophic consequences and their occurrence will change in the future. The goal is to improve our understanding of the factors responsible for extreme winter weather events, such as the type, intensity and duration of precipitation. These will be addressed using state-of-the art numerical tools and unique observation networks. It is essential to better understand the fundamentals of storms and associated precipitation to anticipate their occurrence in a context of ongoing and future climate change.
