DNA encodes hereditary information in living organisms ¿ in order to ensure that this material conveys genetic data correctly, it is essential that damage that occurs to DNA is accurately repaired. Since the brain consumes large amounts of energy, the cells in this tissue are exposed to a substantial amount of damage, which is repaired via complex biological pathways. Dr. Wright¿s research program will use advanced computational approaches to study high throughput genomic data to uncover novel mechanistic insights into the genes and pathways involved in DNA damage response and repair in the brain.
