项目摘要

Currently, different oil-based chemicals are used in the chemical industry, including the mining and oil, to improve the efficiency and reduce the environmental footprints of these processes. However, these chemicals are usually expensive and toxic to the environment. Currently, lignin is a by-product of the pulping industry with a limited use in industry. During the second term of this CRC, 1) fundamentals associated with the conversion of lignin into lignin-based water soluble products for their uses in the chemical industry will be discovered, and 2) processes for producing these lignin based chemicals that are in harmony with the process operations of the pulping industry will be developed.
