英文摘要
The objective of this research is to develop a quantitative and comprehensive bridge condition assessment framework to support Jacques Cartier Champlain Bridge Inc. (JCCBI) and other infrastructure owners in decision-making and optimization of the maintenance, rehabilitation, and replacement of their bridge stock. To this end, we will receive numerous structural members (i.e., girders, in-fill slabs, diaphragms, etc.) from the deconstructed Champlain bridge and will i) apply advanced experimental (i.e., visual, chemical, microscopic and mechanical) techniques to assess the actual condition (i.e., material deterioration degree) of these members subjected to real field exposure conditions over nearly 60 years; ii) investigate the structural implications of material degradation present in different parts of the bridge and the effectiveness of attempted historical rehabilitation strategies; and iii) develop numerical models capable of predicting the future performance of existing structures experiencing similar deterioration. Ultimately, we aim to synthesize this knowledge to develop better informed bridge condition assessment frameworks and management protocols.
