The global information and communication technology landscape is rapidly transforming. New services will foster the digital revolution required for industry 4.0 and the shift to a "smart society" and will impact applications ranging from autonomous transportation to tele-surgery. These services will require fully integrated global connectivity - terrestrial, vehicular, aerial, and aerospace communication technologies - to seamlessly support low latency and high system capacity, data throughput, and reliability. This has triggered a recent acceleration of global research and development (R&D) activities in millimeter-wave (mmwave) wireless communication technology (MWCT) to address spectrum scarcity.Due to the intricacies of MWCT-related research, the know-how related to mmwave circuits and systems accumulated by the principal investigator's team and the complementary expertise and interests of Skyworks and Keysight are key to achieving the goals of the proposed collaborative project. The overall objective of the project is to develop innovative mmwave transmitter architectures and circuit topologies to enhance the performance of 5G radio infrastructure operating at 37-48 GHz frequency bands. This project is poised to bring direct benefits to the industrial partners, supporting Canada's ongoing global leadership in next generation wireless communication technologies. Canadian R&D excellence in aspects of wireless communication infrastructure has been internationally recognized and continues to grow. It is crucial to produce graduates with up-to-date knowledge who can undertake the complex challenges to be faced in developing next generation MWCT solutions. Achieving the proposed project objectives and outcomes will help ensure Canada retains its renown in this sector, has qualified personnel to hire, and remains an attractive destination for engineers and investment.
