The Internet of Things (IoT) streams a massive amount of data varying in scale, speed, volume and value. Through this data IoT brings revolutions to a wide range of businesses and industrial sectors. However, the real value of the IoT comes from turning this data into actions to inform decision making through insights extracted by various data analytics techniques. The overarching objective of this research is to converge intelligent sensing and advanced data analysis techniques to empower IoT systems with innovative and interoperable AI data modeling and analytical techniques to develop next generation applications in intelligent transportation, smart healthcare, connected and autonomous vehicles, and industrial IoT. This will be carried out by developing novel toolboxes that facilitate data understanding, key feature extraction, interactive visualization, precise detection, accurate predictions, and context-aware personalized user smart services. The research outcomes will be demonstrated through rapid prototyping to show the feasibility, usability, and best practices in the context of the application domain. The results will lower the adoption barriers of IoT to promote the use of intelligent sensing and AI-powered solutions to offer convenience and smart services to revolutionize the way people carry out their everyday business at the enterprise and individual levels and improve the quality of life of Canadians and beyond.
