In this international cooperation project involving two universities, a research center and two private companies, a combination of advanced technologies for the production of powders of refractory materials (tungsten, molybdenum, rhenium and their combinations), as well as their processing by 3D printing will allow the manufacture of mechanical components with very high thermal resistance. The realization of this project involves manufacturing the raw material in powder form and optimizing the powder flow characteristics and laser powder bed fusion printing parameters of these powders. The results of this project will enable the creation of lightweight, high-performance devices and systems previously unmatched in the aerospace and energy sectors. The project will allow the training of highly qualified workers and the development of advanced knowledge in these areas with high commercialization potential, thus offering a competitive advantage to Canadian industry.
