The purpose of the project is to develop a new and green bioremediation technique, Enzyme Booster Technology (EnBooT), that can produce enzyme-based formulated site-specific cocktails at an affordable cost. Site-tailored enzyme products can reduce the toxicity of native microorganisms in the first stage. This technology has the potential to overcome the limitations of other remediation methods such as in-situ thermal technologies and/or in-situ chemical oxidation but will also address challenges associated with bioremediation in cold-climate regions, as many of the currently available in-situ remediation solutions are not effective at low temperatures. Based on this proposed research, bioremediation companies and environmental consultants in Ontario, Canada, and the U.S. will develop a better understanding of EnBooT's market applicability. Technology like this can provide remediation companies with compact systems for on-site production of pre-formulated EnBooT, enabling them to scale up enzyme production for different case studies and demonstrate the efficacy of new enzyme formulations in different scenarios.
