SFU's Technology and Licensing Office (TLO) helps SFU innovators assess the patentability and market potential of new technologies and research innovations. The goal is to transfer this knowledge for the benefit of our communities, society and the economy. The TLO's services include confidential invention disclosures, technology assessments, patentability reviews, market assessments, intellectual property protection and commercialization assistance.The Unrau Group at SFU uses in vitro selection to develop powerful RNA tools that can be used to study RNA biology. Recently they have developed a powerful RNA imaging and pulldown technology called RNA Mango that involves the high affinity binding of fluorogenic dyes to small RNA sequences called aptamers. These small and versatile RNA tags have been characterized in depth by the Unrau laboratory in collaboration with a number of international laboratories. The favourable optical, biochemical, and biological properties of these RNA aptamers enables many therapeutic applications for this patented technology. As a result, SFU's Technology and Licensing Office has contacted Adventus Research + Consulting to request a market study of this technology entitled "Fluorogenic RNA Mango Aptamers for RNA Imaging & RNA-protein Complex Purification".
