The necessity to expand the arsenal of smart coating materials to fight the propagation of resistant pathogens is paramount for the safety of the world's population. During the COVID pandemic, the unprecedented demand of alcoholic cleaning product raised tremendous logistic and distribution problems which ultimately impacted countries' response measures throughout the pandemic. To answer this challenge and help the industry to better apprehend future events, novel coating materials must be developed.The technology that will be developed during this collaborative project will allow to prepare sprayable non-volatile coating materials with long lasting antimicrobial effect. The unique polymeric material that will be designed to achieve these properties will be tested in different settings to expand its application range. This alliance project will provide the partner company with a novel material that can be quickly applied to surfaces or human skin in order to obtain potent antimicrobial and antifouling effects.Replacement of highly volatile short lived cleaning product is of great economic and strategic importance internationally. The industrial partner, who rely heavily on coating materials for the preparation of its products, is in dire need of non-toxic coating materials with long-lasting effects. The outcomes of the present research will benefit both the society and the industrial sector by providing them safer coating materials.
