绘本因其直观与可视化的特点，已经成为文化传播的重要形式。在数学教育与数学文化传播领域，美国、韩国、日本等国家已经有一些有影响力的研究工作，但以中国古代数学为主题的数学故事绘本还是一个空白。作为中华民族文化的重要组成部分，中国古代数学不仅博大精深、内涵丰富，具有东方文化的精神特质，同时，与以古希腊数学为代表的西方古代数学遥相呼应，构成双极闪耀的独特文化景象。本项目以中国古代数学历史为依据，选择10个相对集中的主题单元，每个单元设计1-3个独立故事绘本，用适当的演绎，绘本的语言，生动有趣的展现中国古代数学的思想、方法与内容，以使中国古代数学为更多的人们多知晓，同时为中小学生、数学爱好者的数学学习的参考资料。
