寄生植物是寄生在自养植物上,通过吸取寄主水分和营养供给自身的植物。寄生习性的进化伴随着异养程度的加深,从仅将寄生获取的营养作为光合作用的补充,到依赖寄主才能完成生活史,再到完全丢失光合作用能力。在此过程中寄生植物生活习性和形态都发生了巨大的变化,这必然伴随着基因组的剧烈变化。对个别寄生植物基因组的研究发现,寄生植物相比自养植物基因组有显著的差异和特殊的进化模式。然而受限于寄生植物零星的基因组数据,目前的研究缺乏对不同异养程度的寄生植物间纵向比较和对不同起源寄生类群间的横向比较。本项目拟开展两方面研究,其一为以列当科中异养程度不同的几种寄生植物及其自养祖先基因组为对象,以异养程度逐渐加深为线索,进行纵向比较分析;其二为以列当科和菟丝子属两类不同起源的寄生植物基因组为对象,以趋同进化为线索,进行横向比较分析。以此讨论寄生习性的起源、进化过程中基因组的变化以及不同起源类群间的趋同进化及其意义。

Parasitic plants are a special class of plants that extract water and nutrients from other plants for their own growth and development. When parasitism just appeared, the nutrition obtained from the host was only supplementary to photosynthesis. With the evolution of parasitism, the heterotrophy degree of some parasitic plants had gradually increased, and these parasitic plants evolved to become increasingly dependent on their hosts to complete their life cycles. In the end, some plants even completely lost the capability to photosynthesis, and concomitantly, the lifestyles and morphology of these plants had undergone tremendous changes. These changes must have been accompanied by dramatic changes in their genomes. Studies on the genomes of individual parasitic plants have demonstrated that the genomes of parasitic plants have dramatic differences and special evolutionary patterns compared to those of the autotrophic plants. However, limited by a very small number of parasitic plant genomes, the current research lacks progressive vertical comparison of a range of closely related parasitic plants with the same origin but different host dependency and horizontal comparison among parasitic plants with different origins. This project intends to carry out two aspects of research. The first is to obtain genomes data of parasitic plants with different host dependence and their autotrophic ancestors in the Orobanchaceae, then go to vertically comparative analysis of changes in genomes of plants with increased heterotrophy; the second is to horizontal comparatively analyze two different parasitic plants with independent origins, which are from Orobanchaceae and Cuscuta, aiming for convergent evolution events. Therefore, in this project, we intend to discuss the origin of the parasitism, the genomic changes during parasitic plant evolution, and the convergent evolution of parasitic plants from different origins and its significance.
