本课题旨在结合城市社会学、地理学和政治学中关于社区社会资本的理论视角，考察城市社区分异与转型的非正式制度过程与机理。实证研究上，以北京市为案例城市，建立适合于中国城市转型背景的社会资本概念与测量方法，结合回归分析、双重差分法（DID）、空间分析等相结合的定量建模方法，通过大样本社区问卷调查刻画城市居民社会资本的存量、特征及空间分异格局，并考察社会资本对居民生活质量和社区治理绩效的影响；通过基于关键事件与典型社区的追踪式调查，考察社区转型过程中社会资本的割裂、维系及重建过程，从非正式制度变迁的视角解析城市社区转型的内生性制度过程与机理，从而丰富中国城市社区分异与转型研究的理论视角，并为完善我国城市社区治理路径提供政策参考。

This project proposes to integrate the perspectives of social capital in urban geography, sociology, and political science, and to investigate the informal process and mechanisms of spatial differentiation and transformation of urban neighborhoods. Using Beijing as the case city, the empirical research seeks to develop a measurement of social capital that can be applied to the context of urban restructuring in China, and combines regression analysis, difference-in-difference model, GIS-based spatial analysis to answer the following research questions: (1) using large-sample survey data to investigate the structure and spatial characteristics of social capital profile of urban residents of different socio-economic groups and different neighborhoods; (2) to investigate the impacts of social capital at the micro and macro scales – i.e. on individual quality of life and on neighborhood social cohesion; (3) using longitudinal survey data based on a quasi-experimental design, to investigate the impacts of residential relocation on neighborhood social capital by tracing the disruption, persistence, and re-construction of neighborhood social capital of urban residents. Thereby, this project hopes to shed light to an endogenous institutional process of urban community transformation from a social capital perspective, and to contribute to both theoretical understanding of China’s community transformation and urban restructuring, and to the policy making to improving community social cohesion and spatial governance effectiveness.
