近十年,泛热带气候变率获得越来越多的关注,已成为国际气候变化研究领域的热点问题。年际尺度上热带海盆间相互作用影响气候变化的过程和机理已进行了大量研究,然而年代际尺度上泛热带气候变率的物理机制依然不清楚。因此,本研究立足于年代际时间尺度变率,研究近百年以来泛热带气候变率的时空演变特征,揭示泛热带气候变率形成和维持的物理机制,阐明泛热带气候变率对全球变暖加速和减缓的调控作用,从而改进年代际气候预报精度,降低未来气候预测的不确定性,为巴黎气候协定1.5度阈值目标的实现提供科学参考。
英文摘要
During the past decade, pan-tropical climate variability has received much attention and led to one of the most contentious debates in the climate community. However, there is no consensus on where pan-tropical climate variability on decadal timescales originates from and how it can sustain itself, although three-ocean climate variability on interannual timescales is well understood. Therefore, the current project aims to reveal the temporal-spatial characteristics of the decadal pan-tropical climate variability, propose the underlying physical mechanisms for the decadal pan-tropical climate variability, and gain new insight into decadal modulation of the rate of global mean surface temperature warming by pan-tropical climate variability. This study highlights that there is tremendous potential for fully understanding the global warming acceleration and slowdown events, greatly improving decadal climate predictions and considerably diminishing uncertainty in future climate projections, which could help us to better meet the goal of the Paris Agreement in 2015.
