系统刻画我国婚姻匹配模式的长期演变、研究其与城乡发展差异、教育流动、经济不平等等方面的互动关系，不仅存在较大的科学研究价值，更具有理解我国社会不平等形成机制和预判当前户籍等方面体制改革对民生具体影响的迫切社会政策意义。本研究旨在作出三个方面的实证贡献：系统描述1910年至今我国教育婚姻匹配的超长期趋势；研究我国现代化进程中城乡不均衡发展背景下，家庭背景尤其是户籍分隔对教育婚姻匹配模式的干涉作用；检验教育婚姻匹配及其城乡背景差异对我国经济不平等趋势变化的影响。本研究将系统利用1982-2015人口普查微观数据和1996-2018多个全国性社会调查数据，辅以1906-1945台湾地区户籍微观大数据进行中国人婚姻匹配早期趋势的稳健型检验。方法论创新应用包括两方面：发展了相对百分位回归方法来研究婚姻匹配超长期趋势；提出了基于非参数匹配方法研究多维婚姻匹配交换的新的微观反事实分析框架。

To study the long-term evolution of educational assortative mating patterns, as well as its inter-relationships with rural-urban disparities, educational mobility, and economic inequality, has not just scientific significance but also policy implications, especially given the ongoing hukou reforms and educational expansion. This project aims at 1) studying the long-term trends of educational assortative mating in China since 1910s, 2) studying the moderation of hukou-origin status differences on educational assortative mating patterns, and 3) examining how educational assortative mating patterns and education-origin exchange patterns condition social inequality. This project takes advantage of China census microdata samples in 1982-2015, multiple nationally representative social survey databases, and historical population panel data from Colonial Taiwan (1906-1945). To fulfill such goals, I introduce relative percentile ranks to measure individual educational attainment and rank-rank regressions to examine assortative mating patterns. I also propose a new methodological framework that is based on non-parametric matching methods and counter-factual analysis for studying status exchange in marriage.
