How to realize the simultaneous removal of the oppositely charged hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) and bivalent cadmium (Cd(II)) in the industrial wastewater, and the easy separation after removal are important issues. In this project, ferrous sulfide (FeS) and carboxyl-functionalized ferroferric oxide microsphere (CFFM) are deposited on the surface of the waste cotton fabrics, and then a flexible and easy to separate cloth-based sandwich-like nanocomposite (FeS/CFFM/CF) is synthesized via face-to-face combination of these two pieces of cotton fabrics. In this project, the simultaneous removal method of FeS/CFFM/CF for Cr(VI) and Cd(II) will be established. The mechanisms of adsorption and reduction detoxification between CF, FeS, CFFM, FeS/CFFM/CF and Cr(VI), Cd(II) will be studied through traditional methods. The changing process of Cr and Cd state is uncovered by electron spin resonance spectrometer, X-ray absorption fine structure, and other characterization methods. This study will reveal the simultaneous removal mechanism of FeS/CFFM/CF for Cr(VI) and Cd(II), and provide theory and data support for remediation of Cr(VI) and Cd(II) combined pollutant.
