随着颜色科学在工业及科技领域内扮演越来越重要的角色,深入研究视觉系统对颜色刺激的反应并进一步完善色貌模型意义巨大。色适应——视觉系统对颜色刺激的感知随环境(即适应场)的色度与亮度而改变,是视觉系统的一项重要机制。用来描述这一机制的色适应变换模型被广泛运用于众多与颜色相关的领域中(如:色差评价、颜色复制与再现)。但现有的模型仅表征了色适应程度受适应场亮度的影响,而忽略了色度的影响。由于适应场色度可覆盖的范围随着LED动态照明和广色域显示屏的普及变得越来越大,色适应变换模型的这一缺陷亟待解决。本项目拟通过搭建高亮度多通道LED照明平台开展一系列心理物理实验,针对物体表面色和显示屏产生的颜色刺激定量研究适应场光源色坐标与亮度对色适应程度的交互影响,建立一个可以运用于同媒体与跨媒体的两步色适应变换模型,为完善色貌模型提供重要的理论基础,对颜色科学相关领域及工业界具有重要的科学和现实意义。
英文摘要
As color science is playing a more and more important role in industrial and technological applications, having a deeper understanding about how human visual system responds to light stimuli and developing a better color appearance model will bring great benefits. Chromatic Adaptation, the ability of human visual system to adjust the perception according to the brightness and color of the adapting field, is an important mechanism of color vision. Various Chromatic Adaptation Transforms (CATs) have been developed to model this mechanism and have been widely used in many applications that are related to color science, such as color difference evaluation, light source color rendition evaluation, and color reproduction). The existing models, however, only characterize how the luminance of the adapting field affects the degree of chromatic adaptation, and ignores the chromaticities of the adapting field. Such a weakness needs to be urgently addressed, as the chromaticities of the adapting field will cover a wider region due to the wider adoption of LED dynamic lighting and wide-gamut displays. In this project, we will develop a multi-channel LED platform that can provide very high luminance for the adapting field, on which a series of psychophysical experiments will be carried out. We will quantitatively investigate how chromaticities and luminance of the adapting field affect the degree of chromatic adaptation for both surface colors and self-illuminant displays and develop a two-step CAT. The findings of this project will provide theoretical foundation to color appearance model, and make significant contribution to the fields and the industries that are related to color science.
