Sacred Thins. Investigations on History, Theory, and Transformation of Admirable Objects

Purposes of the project in the section of Religious Studies are: 1. Generally, the attempt to find reasons for the explanation why and how things of nature are transfigured into things of culture via the employment of different techniques; the things of culture themselves serve as tools for the inquiry, reassurance and worship of divine resp. sacred energies. 2. The delivery of a qualitative differentiation and analysis of western discourses concerning the modes of operation of sacred objects, fetishes cult objects and devices, deities, and names of gods. 3. To trace the genesis, development, and transformation of myth and religion of crucial demarcations in the discourses from the 19th to 21st centuries via symbolic and semtiotic valencies of material objects and 4. Not to design „another theory of modernity“ (H. Böhme), but to extend and expand H. Böhme’s contribution into genuinely religious fields. With these fundamental analyses the project in the section of Religious Studies shall provide a contribution to the history and theory of belief, emotions, and material culture, which can be linked to each project participating in the research group.
