An examination of the assumption of invariance of the process dissociation models in implicit learningparadigms

One central, albeit debatable assumption in the field of implicit learning is that implicit and explicit learning rely on distinct learning systems. The goal of the research project is to examine this central assumption of implicit learning by applying process dissociation procedures. Process dissociation procedures implicitly assume that automatic (implicit) and controlled (explicit) processes are invariant in the inclusion and exclusion tasks. The research project is aimed to test this implicit assumption of invariance for the generation tasks, a task often used in implicit sequence learning paradigms. If invariance holds, the assumption of two distinct learning systems is supported. The proposed project thus contributes to research on implicit learning and it extends the possible uses of the process dissociation procedure.
