Design of Structural Pattern Recognition Hardware and Software

本文提出了一种全新的形状结构识别的思想，我们称之为可变狭缝法。该系统的基本部分在硬件和固件中实现。这部分是附加到一个普通的图像处理系统由东芝这是所谓的TOSPIX。在TOSPIX中，我们编写了许多特征提取子程序，这些子程序为我们制作的硬件和固件提供命令和参数。TOSPIX再次连接到symbolics 3600 LISP机器。该LISP机器接受要识别的图形的结构描述，并将描述解释为发送到硬件的命令序列及其参数。通过TOSPIX中提取的特征参数，在LISP语言上完成了图形的识别。整个系统工作稳定，对线条图、机械设计图、电子线路图以及各种简单形状的图形都有较好的识别效果。

We proposed a completely new idea about the structural recognition of shapes, which we named as variable slit method. Basic part of this system is realized in hardware and firmware. This part is attached to an ordinary image processing system by Toshiba which is called as TOSPIX. In TOSPIX we wrote many feature extraction subroutines which give command and parameters to the hardware and firmware we fabricated. TOSPIX is again connected to symbolics 3600 LISP machine. This LISP machine accepts the structural descriptions of the figures to be recognized, and interpret a description to a sequence of commands and their parameters which are sent to the hardware. The final recognition of a figure is done on LISP machine by getting the feature parameters from TOSPIX. The whole system is working stably, and we have many recognition results for the figures such as line drawings, machine design maps, electronic circuit maps, and various simple shapes.
