On the analytical capacity of longitudinally collected qualitative interviews in the context of socialisation research

From an empirical and methodological point of view qualitative interviews are perceived as appropriate when analyzing social processes in its formation. However, they are less often surveyed empirically in order to estimate if they actually realize their empirical and methodical claims. Therefore, the proposed research project aims to uncover the analytical capability of longitudinally collected qualitative interviews. Their specific impact shall be demonstrated by treating well-chosen basic problems of socialization theory that were recently investigated by the concept of habitus, here especially related to the formation and transformation of habitus. Besides the clarification of the question concerning the analytical capacity of longitudinal interview data in qualitative research for socialization studies the project intends to enlighten the goodness of interview material, while primarily reflecting on the fact that qualitative interviews are social scientifically constructed forms of conversation. For this purpose we intend to re-analyze interview documents that have been collected in two previous longitudinal studies.
