Influence of the mass rearing on the mating behavior of the melon fly, Dacus cucurbitae Coquillett (Diptera: Tephritidae)

雄瓜蝇分泌的汁液会让雄瓜蝇争夺雌蜂前来交配的好地方。群养雄性在肉上的竞争能力低于野生雄性。雌性与r -雄交配时，交配率更高，交配持续时间更短，表明r -雄在交配后的竞争能力上也不如野生雄性。研究人员发现了两种交配类型：1)求偶型，雄性在与雌性相遇一段时间后，会振动翅膀，然后试图交配；非求偶型，雄性在与雌性相遇一段时间后，会在没有翅膀振动的情况下尝试交配。r -雄虫只有在非求偶型时与野生雌虫交配，而在求偶型时与野生雌虫交配不成功，说明野生雌虫通过雄虫的求偶翼振动对r -雄虫进行了歧视。在人工条件下饲养昆虫时，可能会出现一定程度的驯化，而驯化会导致被饲养昆虫的质量下降。因此，如果我们想要使用昆虫不育技术，释放程序应该尽可能短地终止。

Males of the melon fly make lek on which each male compete for good calling site where a female comes and copulation occurs. Mass-reared(R) males were inferior to the wild males in competing ability among males on lek. More over the rate of remating was higher and duration to remating was shorter when the females mated with R-males, showing that R-males were also inferior to the wild males in competing ability of post copulation.Two types of mating were discovered: 1) courtship type where a male engages in wing vibration after encounter with a female for some time and then try to mount for copulation, and non-courtship type where a male try to mount just after encounter without wing vibration. R-males could copulate with wild females only when engaging in non-courtship type but could not when engaging in courting type, suggesting that wild females discriminated against R-males through the courting wing vibration of males.When insects are reared under artificial conditions, some level of domestication would be expected, and the domestication could resulted in deterioration in quality of reared insects. So if we want to use the sterile insect technique, the releasing program should be terminated as possible as short.
