1.Brain anatomical changesWe reported a result of quantitative analysis of gray and white matter changes found in patients of chronic fatigue syndrome compared with age-matched normal controls (see Bibliography). Based on this method, the analysis of the changes in patients of hypertension and diabetes mellitus were analyzed. Owing to ischemic brain changes in these patients, however, the analysis method is not directly applicable. Hence, we are now analyzing brain images of patients with cerebrovascular stenosis or occlusion, who have mild ischemic changes and are preparing a manuscript for publication.2.Brain metabolitic changesWe firstly investigated the reproducibility of metabolite measurements of the brain with MR spectroscopy. We found a linear relationship in myoinositol between reproducibility and signal-to-noise ratio. This result was reported at the American Society of Neuroradiology 43^<rd> Annual Meeting at Toronto, Canada. This is a novel result and a paper was written and is under submission.3.Brain perfusion changesIn the analysis of brain perfusion, the method itself is of large importance. We had been researched on the brain perfusion with the analysis software, Dr.View 2.0/Linux (AsahiKasei Jyoho System, Inc.). This software was revised at early 2006 and enabled fully automatic analysis, that enables more objective analysis. With this newly introduced system, we are reanalyzing test-retest brain perfusion data and preparing a paper for submission. We are also making a comparative study of the brain perfusion measurement with MRI vs.PET for the evaluation of the accuracy.
