Highly sensitive magnetochemical measurements of condensed phase samples are one of the most important measurement methods in bioinorganic chemistry, materials chemistry, catalysis, as well as in solid state physics and spintronics. Therefore, a large number of magnetic measurements are routinely carried out in the research fields of chemistry, biochemistry and physics at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In chemistry, current and technologically relevant phenomena in the fields of single molecule magnetism, spin crossover, (photo-) catalysis are investigated. In solid-state chemistry and physics, studies are carried out in the field of magnetic order in solid-state structures as well as data storage and data processing (spintronics). Since this often involves samples with very low magnetic moments, measurements with high sensitivity are required. At JGU Mainz, a SQUID magnetometer (superconducting quantum interference device) has been operated by AK Prof. Eva Rentschler for 15 years. Due to its age, this instrument is now massively susceptible to faults. In addition, the procurement of replacement components is becoming increasingly difficult and cost-intensive. In some cases, self-made solutions had to be developed. The instrument service for the instrument was already discontinued by the manufacturer in 2018. Accordingly, this application represents a replacement procurement for a highly modern, high-performance SQUID magnetometer, which will ensure productive magnetometric work at the Mainz site for the coming years. The application also takes into account the very high sample volume and the significantly increased need for measuring capacity due to new appointments at the site. Accordingly, the proposed device should be equipped with the necessary equipment to address current questions in ongoing and planned research projects and research associations.
