Studies on Morphological Characteristics of Root Systems and Soil holding Abilities of Cover Plants

通过根箱、圆柱体和田间试验，研究了几种覆盖作物的根系结构与持土能力的关系。在10种覆盖作物中，肯塔基早熟禾、高羊茅、爬行红羊茅、多年生黑麦草、多花黑麦草、鸭茅、芦须草、裸子草、百喜草、垂柳和白三叶的持土能力最强。其持土能力与根系生长密切相关，尤其与根系在土壤中的分布及节间的生根形态密切相关。

We conducted root box, cylinder column and field tests to examined the relation between root structure and soil holding abilities of several cover crops. Among 10 cover crops, Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, creeping red fescue, perennial ryegrass, orchardgrass, reed canarygrass, centiped grass, bahiagrass, weeping lovegrass and white clover, centiped grass showed the highest soil holding ability. Its soil holding ability was closely related with the root growth, especially the distribution of roots in soil and rooting form which comes out of the nodes.
