Development and evaluation of the system on supporting communication using the translation device from Japanese voice to sign language animation for hearing-impaired people in stomach X-ray inspection

[Aim] Investigation of problems caused by the handicap of their communication and evaluation of the system on supporting their communication in the stomach X-ray inspection for hearing-impaired people.[Subjects and Methods] 1. As the results of the subjective evaluation by hearing-impaired people, the improved animation obtained higher rate in comprehensibility than those in the old animation while it did not reach the level of signers' translation in video. The mean rate of the correct answers in the improved animation was 70 % when it was evaluated under the simulation of the inspection, however, a few sentences were not understood at all.
