動物は、視野内に興味ある物体が出現すると、速い眼球運動(サッケード)を行い視標を中心窩に捉える。本研究では微小電流刺激でサッケードの抑制を引き起こす大脳前頭眼野の部位と、サッケードの司令を出すと従来から考えられてきた古典的前頭眼野の部位がどの様に相互に働き、サッケードの発現と停止の制御を行っているかを解析した。さらに垂直眼球運動系において、これまで不明であった中脳上丘から外眼筋運動ニューロンに至る経路を明らかにした。
