"Takeshima Research as an Area Study" : Towards the Integration of Empirical and Field Researches.

现有关于竹岛的讨论大多集中在领土争端(即国家层面的问题)，而直接受竹岛影响的地方和人民在很大程度上被忽视。与此同时，管理竹岛的地方政府不是根据当地的实际情况做出决定，而是根据国家的逻辑做出决定。竹岛周围其实并不像人们通常认为的那样是一个富饶的渔场，几乎所有违反Syngman Rhee Line被扣的日本渔船都没有驶向竹岛地区--这项研究不仅试图指出现有研究背后的这些问题，而且实证地揭露了当今盛行的神秘话语中发现的错误和错觉。

The existing discussions on Takeshima have mostly focused on the territorial dispute (i.e. the issues at national level), and the locality and people who are directly affected by Takeshima have been largely overlooked. At the same time, the local governments which administer Takeshima have made decisions not based on the reality of the locality but on the logic of the state. The area around Takeshima is in fact not a rich fishing ground as it is usually assumed; almost all of the Japanese fishing vessels captured by violating Syngman Rhee Line were not heading toward Takeshima area - this research not only attempted to point out such problems behind the existing researches, but also empirically exposed the errors and delusions found in the mystified discourse that is prevalent today.
