Product Architecture, Core competence and Information Technology : An International Comparative Study

本研究是一项国际比较研究，旨在分析产品架构、核心竞争力和信息技术之间的关系。作为代表性业绩，我发表了《在动荡的竞争环境中构建网络能力：来自韩国和日本的全球企业的实践”（Taylor &弗朗西斯有限责任公司，2012年）和“产品架构，组织能力和IT集成的竞争优势”（International Journal of Information Management，2012）等。在本研究中，基于（1）装配制造商和供应商之间的IT集成程度和（2）产品设计信息的结构（即，例如，产品架构）。本研究的结果表明，与其他日本企业相比，韩国企业实现了更高水平的IT集成，从而获得了更好的市场绩效。此外，本研究还提出了一个新的概念，即集成制造信息系统（IMIS）。从这个意义上说，本研究提供了有效的IT整合战略在全球市场上的竞争优势有价值的见解。

This study is an international comparative study to analyze relationships among product Architecture, Core competence, and Information Technology. As a representative performance, I published "Building Network Capabilities in Turbulent Competitive Environments : Practices of Global Firms from Korea and Japan"(Taylor & Francis LLC, 2012) and "Product architecture, organizational capabilities and IT integration for competitive advantage"(International Journal of Information Management, 2012), etc. In this research, a typology of IT system configurations is presented based on (1) the degree of IT integration between assembly makers and suppliers and (2) the structure of product design information(i. e., product architecture). Results of this study suggest that Korean firms accomplish a greater level of IT integration compared to the other Japanese firms and thus attain better market performance. Furthermore, this research suggests a new concept of IMIS(Integrated Manufacturing Information System). In this sense, this study offers valuable insight on effective IT integration strategy for competitive advantage in the global market.
