A Theoretical and Descriptive Study on Subjectification and Intersubjectification

本研究考察了Traugott及其同事提出的语义变化理论的有效性。Traugott及其同事认为，语义的变化从非/非主观到主观再到主体间。它还研究了涉及主观和主体间意义发展的因素。对“all you want”、“big time”等英语强化短语和“having said that”等结构进行了共时和历时分析。分别从COCA和COHA中采集样本。因此，本研究发现（间）主观意义必须从“语义化”的角度来定义，并证实了Traugott的语义变化单向性理论。主体性意义向主体间性意义的发展源于主体性意义与命题内容相关，而主体间性意义则以人际关系和话语管理为导向。

This research investigated the validity of the theory of semantic change proposed by Traugott and her colleagues, who maintained that meaning changes from non-/less subjective to subjective to intersubjective. It also examined factors involved in the development of subjective and intersubjective meaning. Synchronic as well as diachronic analysis was conducted on English intensifier phrases, such as "all you want" and "big time" and constructions, such as "having said that." Examples were collected from COCA and COHA.Consequently, this research found that (inter)subjective meaning had to be defined in terms of "semanticization" and attested Traugott's theory of unidirectionality of semantic change. The development from subjective into intersubjective meaning was found to be motivated by the fact that subjective meaning is associated with propositional content while intersubjective meaning is oriented toward interpersonal relation and discourse management.
