该工具将使用户能够了解:*通信技术混合/平台将最好地满足他们的通信需求(基于其用例/位置的Data throughput/latency/resiliency/coverage/consistency/security))。
**Project Motivation/Need**The technological landscape in the marine/maritime environment is rapidly changing with key drivers such as marine autonomy and more general deployment of maritime IOT across smart ports, environmental monitoring, weather monitoring, offshore asset monitoring and under water environments. The smart/ultra-connected infrastructure underpinning the modernisation of the maritime sector is extremely data hungry. Trusted data is the basis for good decisions/safety/reliability. This data is managed and transferred by a combination of private and public networks, which are themselves rapidly advancing. Technological changes include new transmission methods(Free-Space-Optics, MIMO), communication platforms(Drones, High Altitude Platforms, Buoys, helikites, Satellites) as well as new integration standards and virtualization methods. However, connectivity networks for Maritime IoT, autonomy, off-shore assets and smart ports are being built out in a piecemeal and isolated manner. There is a real danger of non-integrable and non-extensible private networks being built out for each project and application. The impact, already being felt, is the highly inefficient, costly and suboptimal deployment of connectivity infrastructure and technologies, with follow on problems in technology integration and interoperability. In this context telecommunication network operators, vendors, IoT project developers, smart port developers & operators, maritime autonomy planners are grappling with key questions related to which technologies to mix, how to deploy them in an interoperable way, and how to drive business propositions which promote collaboration rather than piecemeal solutions**Responding to the Need/Opportunity**We propose developing a first of its kind software tool to aid planning, implementing and monitoring collaborative, interoperable and extensible maritime telecommunication networks to help enable the cost effective and high-performance deployment of maritime IoT/autonomy applications. The tool will enable users to understand:* The communications technologies mix/platforms that will best satisfy their communication requirements (data throughput/latency/resiliency/coverage/consistency/security) based on their use-cases/location.* Sensible integration/interface options (or not) with existing communication networks(i.e. based on security/cost/performance requirements)* The business cases, additional revenue streams/cost savings for developing collaborative, interoperable and extensible networks and the impact on technology mix/network characteristics.* How spectrum should best be managed to avoid interference and meets connection requirements.**Helping growing the South West/U.K**We are proud to be based, helping to grow and collaborating in the South West.
