RA to work on MINOS

中微子有三种不同的风格。MINOS是一个长基线中微子振荡实验，它可以测量当中微子从费米实验室束传播到南丹矿地下深处MINOS远探测器735公里时，Muon中微子向电子和tau中微子的转变(中微子振荡)。该实验对支配这些跃迁的中微子性质进行了精确的测量。这笔赠款将使STFC能够继续利用世界领先的NUMI/MINOS设施，从而利用STFC(以及以前的PPARC)所做的大量投资。

Neutrinos come in three distinct flavours. MINOS is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment which can measure the transformation (neutrino oscillations) of muon neutrinos into electron and tau neutrinos as the neutrinos propagate 735 km from the Fermilab beam to the MINOS far detector deep underground in the Soudan mine. The experiment makes precision measurements of the neutrino properties that govern these transitions. This grant will allow STFC to continue to exploit the world-leading NuMI/MINOS facility thus capitalising the substantial investment made by STFC (and previously PPARC).
