Quantum nonlinear optics in III-V semiconductors/ Nonlinear frequency conversion in gallium nitride nanoresonator

We investigate an all-dielectric gallium nitride nanoresonator with conical geometry. This system possesses low absorption and high refractive index while also supporting mie resonances that enhance its potential for nonlinear frequency conversion. We employ finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) simulations to identify the wavelengths of resonant modes via their scattering cross-sections and study how the mode wavelengths shift with varying cone diameters and angles. We then fabricate gallium nitride nanoresonators with the desired parameters and measure their second order nonlinear susceptibilities via second harmonic generation. By precisely engineering the shape and size of the nanoresonators, we support the efforts to optimize nanoscale frequency conversion processes which are crucial in a wide variety of applications.
