Action and Contemplation in Greco-Roman Theories of Statemanship

本项目的目的是分析西塞罗的理想统治者的概念，考虑到他接受的政治理论发展的第四世纪雅典哲学家（柏拉图，亚里士多德，伊索克拉底）。政治家的一般研究问题需要对以下三个研究主题进行评估：1）政治家的知识及其认识论基础; 2）政治家需要接受的培训; 3）政治家的目的和方法。我将通过研究行动（包括修辞）和沉思（即理论研究）如何在每个作者的哲学中告知理想统治者的形象来解决这些问题。

The present project aims to analyse Cicero's conception of the ideal ruler taking into account his reception of the theories of statemanship developed by 4th century Athenian philosophers (Plato, Aristotle, Isocrates). The general research question of statemanship requires an assessment of these three research topics: 1) the statesman's knowledge and its epistemological foundation; 2) the training the statesman needs to receive; 3) the aims and methods of statemanship. I will address these topics through a study of how action (including rhetoric) and contemplation (i.e. theoretical studies) inform the figure of the ideal ruler in each authors' philosophy.
