Foodbanks are fast becoming a mainstay in the UK's social security system. Drawing upon feminist ethnographies, this research proposes to expand upon existing debates by using a case study approach focusing on women's experiences in Walker, Newcastle-upon- Tyne, namely from a foodbank in this area. Research into food insecurity in the UK has identified that women are at heightened risk of experiencing food insecurity, although much less explored are the experiences and drivers contributing to this inequity. This research engages directly with women with experiences of food insecurity, seeking their perspectives on their life experiences and personal circumstances that have contributed to this, and their participation in accessing service provision. By simultaneously observing foodbank interactions and seeking expertise from foodbank service providers, this research takes a holistic approach, developing a deeper understanding of the priorities and needs of both people experiencing food insecurity, and foodbanks in the UK.
