MOLECULAR GENETICS LABORATORY CHARACTERIZATION OF MODELS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Molecular Genetics Laboratory was developed for the purpose of isolating the genes involved in animal models of human disease, determining mutations responsible for specific diseases, and cloning relevant normal cDNAs for use in vector construction for therapeutic approaches. As such, this laboratory provides the definitive dimension in the ability to fully characterize models and establish their homology to the human disease. The availability of a complete 7.6X canine genome sequence, and the ongoing effort to produce a 2X feline genome sequence (approximately ¿ of the raw sequence data for this project is already available at NCBI Trace Archive: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Traces/trace.cgi?) has significantly enhances the our ability to provide molecular characterization of disease under study.
